Thanks for stopping by and checking out this page in a sea of many awesome indie projects. Early and current plans are:
* Starfighter combat with 6DOF movement.
* Various weapons and ship modules for offensive and defensive capabilities
* 3D cockpit
* Wave based combat
* Scripted missions
and more to come.
The core focus of this project will be on gameplay; challenging and fun (two terms that rarely fit together). I’m not looking to create a story driven campaign; I started that way and realised it was a huge tasks to take on alone, or with a small group of like minded developers. Instead, I intend to focus on combat and present a range of scenarios that are pre-scripted (perhaps mini storylines) and randomly generated. If a comparison of this kind a mission was to be made then consider the Star Trek: Starfleet Command series of video games.
I originally started an Excel sheet and have since moved over to using Trello for maintaining focus and tracking development. You are welcome to check it out right here. There you will see what I’m currently working on, what is planned next, ideas/wishlist and what has been done since I started using the board.
This project started as a result of my passion for space combat games. The 90’s was the heyday for space combat titles and since the early 00’s dried up and relegated to a few indie titles that never quite captured the essence or fun from the 90’s. More recently; thanks to Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen it has come back in to the headlines of the gaming press, even though other indie developer plugged on to fill the void with successful titles (most recently Evochron Legacy from Starwraith Games).
Graphics will be similar to low polygon art found on the original Playstation and Sega Dreamcast, as graphics will be initially developed by myself.
For audio, sound effects will use unity Asset packs; as I have found them to be of higher quality, consistent and categorised well enough to save time searching through free sound boards.
As for music, I could make use of royalty free tracks made available by professional music artists from places such as Incompetech. However, find the right track to create a mood fitting for the game is more difficult than one might imagine. This may need to be sourced specifically for the project. For the time being, this is on the back burner until the core of the project is been fully developed.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this description. I hope to have more details soon. Absolute Territory is expected to be released in 2019.
