1812 Serce Zimy

1812 The Heart of Winter is an unusual Polish production, realized in the form of an audiobook with minimal graphic design and with the participation of many famous actors (including Piotr Fronczewski). The title was created by Orange Labs.

The main character of the game is a young Lithuanian officer of Corvinas Gediminas, who after numerous military adventures decides to settle permanently in his modest estate. Everything changes when Mrs. Winter kidnaps Corvinus his beloved sister. Having no other choice, the nobleman joins Napoleon’s troops, which at that time are heading deep into the dangerous Russian lands. Although historical motifs appear in the Heart of Winter, there are also fantastic elements.

The game takes place quite untypical and resembles a bit of a book in which we can make choices invented by the author in a given place. In the Heart of Winter it is similar – the readers read the events of the novel, and at some point it is the player who decides whether, for example, the hero should engage in a discussion with someone or ignore the individual. There are many more choices and they also appear during conversations (we can determine whether we want Corvin to speak politely or ironicly) and fights (it is better to attack with a sabre or a pistol). Our decisions have an impact on both the hero and the whole story. In case of wrong choice and death of the main character we are moved back to the last scene.

The whole story is complemented by the protagonist’s equipment and a map of the game world, allowing for easy and trouble-free moving between different locations.

The script was developed by Magda and Maciej Reputakowski, and 36 speakers took part in the recording of the spoken issues, including Piotr Fronczewski playing the narrator and Jacek Kopczyñski giving the voice to Korwin. The cast also included such names as Jacek Rozenek or Jaros³aw Boberek.

The game received a certificate from the Polish Association of the Blind. It confirms that the title is also available to visually impaired or very visually impaired people. All actions that we can take with the keyboard are read by the teacher.
