Before Breakfast
Here are the two areas of the ‘Before Breakfast’ section:
- Chris’ Room
- Kitchen
Chris’ Room
The Game opens with a three-minute cutscene introducing you to the area, Chris’ house, as well as Chris himself. After the cutscene has finished, Chris will begin to draw his superhero persona, Captain Spirit.
Firstly, Chris will automatically add a cape to him. After that, you will then be given the option to choose how Captain Spirit looks, which will affect how Chris looks as he creates the costume. These choices will impact where you need to look to find your costume elements, but none are particularly harder to find than any other. Therefore, you can choose whichever you prefer. The first choice you will be given is if you want Captain Spirit to have a ‘Mask’ or ‘Helmet’. After that, you can choose whether Captain Spirit wears ‘Light Armor’ or ‘Heavy Armor’. Finally, you can color captain spirit to be ‘Dark’ or ‘Colorful’. With Captain Spirit fully customised another short cutscene will play out before you gain control of Chris.
Now, you can explore Chris’ room and interact with the various items there. However, at some point, Chris’ father will call him for breakfast. If he has to call Chris two times he will become angry at him. This does affect the conversation they have and the mood of that conversation. Therefore, if you want to keep Chris’ father happy head out of the door after he calls you the first time. Don’t worry if you were not able to interact with every object in Chris’ room as you can interact with them after breakfast.
Nevertheless, below is a list of objects Chris can interact within in his room. As is common in Life is Strange, the majority of these objects can only be looked at prompting a response from Chris and not much else. However, some objects can utilise Chris’ powers by holding down the left trigger and then hitting ‘X’ on PS4 or ‘A’ Xbox One. These are denoted by a white arrow with yellow outlines.
This list starts from the window next to Chris’ bed and goes around the room anti-clockwise.

After interacting with the various objects, or when Chris’ dad calls for him, you can head out of Chris Room through the door.
Kitchen
Heading out will start a cutscene between Chris and his Father, and provides a lot of hints at their family and their current situation. At various points, you have the option to choose what Chris will say.
The first option is where Chris’ father asks him sarcastically if the breakfast is alright. Responding “It’s Good” will directly answer the question. However, responding with “I Like Mom’s” will lead the conversation into Chris talking to his father about his mum. From there, you can answer however you want, as the dialogue options just provide different information. They do not change the objective or what you will be doing next.
At the end of the conversation, Chris’ father will sit down on a chair to watch the game of Basketball, as Chris puts his dishes away. You will then gain control of Chris again and that concludes this section of the walkthrough. To continue this walkthrough head to the After Breakfast section.
After Breakfast
This section of the game takes place after eating breakfast, but before waking up Chris’ father. This section is where the majority of things to do in Captain Spirit can be done. By pressing the ‘touchpad’ on PS4, or the ‘View’ button on Xbox One, one can view Chris’ List of Awesome Things to do. The majority of these are optional; however, one should do all of these, as they are either fun, help flesh out Chris, or provide backstory for the characters.
This walkthrough will be split into each of the things on Chris’ list. There are more interactable objects and triggers for dialogue throughout Chris’ house and backyard. However, the sheer amount is a little ridiculous to write up. Just be sure to check each room and each object, ensuring you have not missed any options to interact with anything. The majority of these extra objects do not provide any gameplay benefit and simply just offer extra conversations between Chris and his father.
A final note, at some point Chris’ father will fall asleep. DO NOT wake him up until you have done everything you want to in this chapter, as upon waking him up you will enter a cutscene that will last till the end of the game. Consequently, leading you to miss out on completing some of these objectives.
Here are all of Chris’ awesome things to do. Clicking on one will take you to the walkthrough of that specific objective.
- Captain Spirit’s Costume
- Phone Game
- Water Eater
- Target Practise
- Mantroid
- Snowmancer
- Captain Spirit’s Treasure
- Superhero and Supervillain Collection
Click here to skip all of these and head right to the main objective.
Captain Spirit’s Costume
Captain Spirit’s costume is made up of items Chris finds as he explores the house. Firstly, the cape can be found in Chris’ room. Open up the wardrobe and it will be hanging there. By pressing the ‘left trigger’, along with ‘X’ on PS4 or ‘A’ on Xbox One, Chris will use his powers to put on the cape.
If you chose light armor, the next piece of Captain Spirit’s costume can be found in Chris’ Dad’s Room. His room is opposite Chris’. After entering, head to the back right corner of the room. There is a sports bag on the floor. Once again pressing ‘left trigger’ and ‘X’ on PS4 or ‘A’ on Xbox One, will allow Chris to wear his armor. If you chose heavy armor, you can find what you are looking for by going outside and approaching your father’s truck. Interact with the cardboard box on the side to put on your armor.
If you chose a mask, the next piece of the costume is in the bathroom. There are some shelves in the bathroom, and high up on them is some makeup that Chris can put on. If you chose a helmet, the next piece of the costume is the aluminium foil on the bottom shelf in the kitchen. Chris will mould this into his helmet.
The final piece of Captain Spirit’s costume is found within the garage but first, you need the key. The key can be found hanging high up, next to the backdoor in the kitchen. Now head outside using the front door, as the backdoor cannot be opened. The garage is located, on the right of Chris’ house and is not hard to miss.
Head inside and use the spray paint on the shelves to the right. A cutscene will then play now that you have completed the full costume.
Phone Game
The phone game, Mustard Party 2, can be played on Chris’ Dad’s phone. The phone can be found on a desk in-between the kitchen and living room.
Pressing ‘Unlock’ will reveal that the phone needs a PIN to unlock it. The code is ‘42983294’ which spells out ‘HAWTDAWG’. This is relevant as it is the name of the Hero you play as in Mustard Party 2. You do not have to gain a specific score, simply play once and that is it.
Water Eater
This one is simple. Head to the laundry room, which is to the right of the back door. Flick the switch on, and you will see a door in that room. Using Chris’ powers, gain the courage to open the door.
Walk forward, and use Chris’ powers to tame the Water Eater. After doing this, Chris will leave the room and the objective will be complete.
Target Practise
This is another simple objective. In the kitchen, there are some beer cans on the counter. Choose the ‘Trash’ option, so that Chris can put them in the recycling box.
Then, whilst looking at the recycling box, choose the ‘Take Out’ option.
Now, head outside and look at the recycling box. Press the ‘Set Up Range’ option. Aim at the centre of the tower of cans and throw with the ‘right trigger’ to complete the objective.
Mantroid
Firstly, a complete costume is needed to head to Mantroid’s planet. Therefore, if you have not done this yet, you can see how to get the full Captain Spirit Costume here.
After that you will need the car keys. Head around the coffee table in the living room. On the floor, in-between the couch and the clothes rack is the Car Keys.
From there, head outside and to the car parked outside the garage. Use Chris’ powers to ‘Powerdrive’ the car and start the cutscene that takes Chris to Mantroid’s planet. Once there, simply walk to the lamppost, and another cutscene will play that will complete this objective.
Snowmancer
The first thing to do for this objective is to head into the garage and unlock the combination locker. If you do not have the garage key yet it can be found high up by the back door.
The code can be found on Chris’ Father’s sports memorabilia. However, if you just want to know the code, it is ‘2005’.
Inside, on the top shelf, are Chris’ firecrackers; choose to take them and then head back outside.
Now, head to the back of the house where you will find the snowmancer outside, which is a snowman. Choose to rebuild him, and then Chris can use his powers to blow up the snowmancer.
Captain Spirit’s Treasure
The treasure has to be deciphered using a map and a decoder. To find the code head outside and climb up to Chris’ treehouse at the back of the house. Now, open the box to his left and inside the box is the decoder.
Now, head back inside the house, into Chris’ room. On the wall, in-between the bed and desk is a map of the area. Use Chris’ powers to decipher the map.
To decipher the map line the decoder up like this:
Take note of the arrows and numbers as they tell you the directions you will need to go when finding the treasure. The directions are Left, Right, Left, Left.
Now, head back outside and at the front of the house is a pile of junk. Stand here and choose to enter the pile.
Here is a maze that you need to get through. The directions were shown on the deciphered map; however, if you have forgotten choose Left, Right, Left, Left. You will then emerge and complete the objective as a cutscene plays.
Superhero and Supervillain Collection
There are a number of superhero and supervillain toys around Chris’ house that he can interact with. Finding all of these will complete the objective. The first figures are in Chris’ room. On the floor are Power Bear and Noctarious.
Also on the floor is the Shark-Stinger
Then, next to Chris’ bed is the Forest Warrior, located on his cabinet.
Now, head to the living room and tucked underneath the coffee table is the Dinosaur Toy.
The final toy is outside, in Chris’ treehouse. Climb to the top and the Sky Pirate will be right in front of where Chris is seated.
Waking Chris’ Father
After completing as many objectives as you want above, you can head back inside and choose to wake up Chris’ Father. This will lead into the final cutscene of Captain Spirit.
Waking Up Dad
At the end of the last section of the game, you woke up Chris’ father. This initiates a cutscene that continues until the game ends. However, midway through one of Chris’ teachers, Mrs Reynolds, will ring the doorbell. There are dialogue options here; however, they do not affect any of the events from here on out.
After Mrs Reynolds leaves, events transpire that lead Chris to discover his mysterious powers accidentally, much like Max did in the original Life is Strange.
The game will then conclude.
