We’ve all seen the leaked trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront 2, but a new teaser video released today could shed more light on the game’s plot. Today’s video shows a condensed version of the full trailer, leaked via Sony two days ago, right up until the end, when this new image appears:
The screen shows an imperial pilot, with a symbol of the Galactic Empire on the right of their helmet and a mystery symbol on the left. We’ve done some digging on Wookieepedia, and the symbol doesn’t seem to have appeared anywhere in the Star Wars universe before. The screen also promos the event tomorrow, where the reveal trailer–the one that already leaked–will be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. There is speculation that the game’s creators and Lucasfilm could actually show an extended trailer instead.
On Wednesday, the game’s trailer was leaked via a Sony ad. It features a female soldier, narrating the video, sharing a bit of her story. “I still remember my last orders. The day the real war began,” she says, likely a nod to the single-player campaign EA has been promising in this sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront.
In the leaked trailer, we also saw the imperial pilot with the mystery symbol, who also features prominently on the EA website. He or she is right in the middle of the last screen of the video, flanked by Daisy Ridley’s Rey on the left (from the seventh Star Wars film, The Force Awakens) and Darth Maul on the right (from Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace).
It’s a further nod to Battlefront 2’s promise that the game will span multiple eras of Star Wars, and feature characters including Yoda and Kylo Ren as well, adding more mystery as to where this pilot fits in.
Of course, it could all be a nod to the upcoming film Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While our imperial pilot is not featured in the trailer released today, the leaked Battlefront 2 trailer indicates those who preorder the game will get access to something called Star Wars: The Last Jedi Heroes. This sounds like a similar deal to 2015, when Star Wars: Battlefront got the Battle of Jakku DLC expansion after The Force Awakens hit theaters.
Our fingers are crossed we’ll get the full story tomorrow at the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 panel, where EA and Lucasfilm are promising to reveal more details about the upcoming game. GameSpot is there at Star Wars Celebration, and we’ll have full coverage of the event and the latest news about Star Wars: Battlefront 2 right here on our homepage.
